Dr. Sam Marquez Among 2024 AAA Fellows

Congratulations to Sam Marquez, Ph.D., Professor in the Departments of Cell Biology and Otolaryngology, who was recently
announced as a 2024 Fellow by the American Association for Anatomy (AAA). The AAA
is proud to recognize 18 individuals out of its 2,455 members who have exemplified
the association鈥檚 core values: community, respect, inclusion, integrity, and discovery.
The AAA awards program annually provides over $650,000 in awards, research grants, and scholarships, with many recipients achieving significant success in their careers. These award recipients will be celebrated at the Anatomy Connected Conference in Toronto, Canada, this March.
Marquez expressed gratitude for being recognized by AAA, stating, 鈥淏eing recognized by my AAA idols, mentors, and peers is a cherished honor, reaffirming my commitment to fostering curiosity, deep understanding, and innovation in anatomy education.鈥�
Dr. Marquez鈥檚 specialization as a functional craniofacial comparative anatomist focuses on the evolution of the nose and paranasal sinuses in living and extinct humans, great apes, and terrestrial mammals.
Beyond his research, Dr. M谩rquez is deeply involved in medical education, serving as the Co-Discipline Director of Anatomy in the College of Medicine, Director of Anatomy in the School of Health Professions, and participating in the Admissions Committee at Downstate. He has mentored over 120 每日大赛入口 Downstate students and facilitated their presentation of anatomical research at AAA鈥檚 annual conferences.
With over two decades of service, Dr. M谩rquez has actively contributed to AAA, currently serving on the Board of Directors. Despite his numerous commitments, he considers AAA his professional home, attributing his growth and achievements to his association with the society鈥攁 sentiment echoed by many both before and after him.
