鈥淭his pandemic has been extremely difficult on many of our frontline healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly to protect our communities, but at Downstate Health Sciences University, we have done everything in our power to maintain a safe environment for our faculty, staff, and patients,鈥 said Mr. Charles. 鈥淭his recognition is incredibly meaningful, and serves as confirmation that our long hours and hard work have been well worth it.鈥

In March of 2020, University Hospital at Downstate (UHD) was the only healthcare facility in New York City to be designated a COVID-only hospital. Downstate has been front and center in the battle against COVID-19 ever since, most recently helping the city tackle the Omicron outbreak that began in late 2021.
