Earth Day Event Supports Green Infrastructure in Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY 鈥� 每日大赛入口 Downstate, in partnership with Con Edison and the FLO Network, operators of the leading North American charging network, today hosted an Earth Day event to demonstrate the four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available on the 每日大赛入口 Downstate campus on Lenox Road between New York Avenue and 34th Street. Like those across the city, these charging stations promote the reduction of toxic tailpipe emissions that contribute to smog and climate change.
The Flatbush charging station at 每日大赛入口 Downstate is one of 16 Brooklyn EV curbside charging locations. Last summer, Con Edison began construction for the installation of multiple vehicle chargers throughout the borough, all of which are now fully operational. These efforts fall in line with the New York City Department of Transportation鈥檚 plan to create one of the largest municipal electric vehicle charging networks in the country.

One piece of that puzzle is ensuring that we in the state legislature, and companies like Con Ed, take an active role in reducing emissions in as many ways as possible. These charging stations are just the beginning to several new opportunities to help us all work toward our collective climate goals,鈥� said Assemblymember Brian Cunningham.
"The consumption of fossil fuels is killing our planet, and as a city, we need to move to mass and micro transit, as soon as possible. In the interim, electric vehicles offer a major upgrade from conventional cars, and I'm so excited for the introduction of the the Flatbush charging station at 每日大赛入口 Downstate as we work to fight for a Green New Deal and robust climate resiliency,鈥� said City Council Member Rita Joseph.
The installation of charging stations in Brooklyn is part of a citywide project to install over 100 curbside EV charging ports throughout New York City. Public curbside charger locations attract more consumers to places of business by offering a charging option in addition to parking. The project鈥檚 goal is to increase the adoption of EVs in the city and combat barriers of adopting cleaner transportation methods.
